On behalf of the 2018 Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary
Committee, I would like to express our extreme
gratitude for your support of this year’s Poles and
Holes Ice Fishing Derby.
We were faced with a bit cooler weather than usual,
but were still able to have a good time and hold a
very successful derby. The February 10th
derby had approximately 950 brave souls fishing and
likely another couple of hundred spectators. Each
year it seems like our participants come from a bit
wider circle in the upper Midwest as we had folks
from Montana to Nebraska over to Rochester, MN up to
Silver Bay and over to Minot, ND in attendance. So
the derby and this area certainly has appeal—and how
about that Ice Palace!
It’s particularly heartening to see so many families
out enjoying the great outdoors and recreational
opportunities that our area has to offer. Detroit
Lakes is a great place to visit—year round!
Because of the support of our sponsors and the
enthusiastic participation of the fishing public, we
have now raised over $130,000 to benefit worthy
projects in the area as well as for impoverished
nations overseas. In addition over our tournament’s
history, we’ve given out over $240,000 in prizes to
our participants. We are humbled by the steady
growth in popularity of this event. We couldn’t
have done it without you!
We hope that we can count on your support once again
next year as we host the 9th Annual Poles
and Holes Ice Fishing Derby on February 9, 2019.
